Fernie is hands down our new favorite! we came up from Idaho to check this place out on a road trip to a number of BC resorts and Fernie was the best for Snow and terrain! as members of our group were very keen skiers and wanted exactly what Fernie had to offer- long fall line runs of ridges with fresh snow and good gladed tree runs! the management at Fernie has done a good job with glading! our local resort needs to take a lesson from them....We will be back!

Fernie was absolutely incredible this winter! All of the feedback we got from guests - great snow, incredible terrain and easy to get to from Cranbrook airport were true! we came from Vancouver for 1st time. We had over 50cm of snow the week that we visited and as an avid Whistler skier i thought that the Fernie snow was lighter and the fall line tree runs were very comparable. I will go back for sure as this is place is one you will not want to miss. We booked through the ski area website and had no problems and good service.

Great Snow, one of the worse managed hill that I've been too. Have no clue in running a ski hill ski the original owner sold. Does not give a damn of the local town and season passholders. Also it is the most expensive ski hill in BC.

Fantastic! Fresh powder, friendly staff, little to no wait for lifts. Officially our favourite hill. I cannot believe they are closing after next weekend when the snow is still exceptional (and still falling!). Great ski school for the little ones - our kids loved the adventure park and many tree runs. Lots of terrain for every level. Would like to see more on-hill eating options, but we will be back and back and back again.

ok, this hill had the best powder out of all the hills this year hands down. it seems like it still a very undiscovered destination. there was not a long wait at all for the lifts!

unbeleivable snow!!!
174 cm in the five days i was there.
lifts can be slow and poorly placed but the terrain is second only to kicking horse

What can I say other than this place has gone straight to the top of our list of most desired ski resorts !

The mountain had plenty of challenging and varied terrain and the quality of snow was as good as you would ever hope to get. The mountain seemed to suit a much broader range of ski levels than we expected with plenty of cruising greens and blues down low and some much more challenging "dark" blues and blacks up in the bowls. Lift queues were virtually non-existent during the week but, like all other resorts, it could get busier on weekends (not sure what the previous poster who complained about lift queues was comparing it to ?).

We stayed on mountain at Cornerstone Lodge which was within 100 metres of 3 chair lifts and the rooms were spacious with a good size kitchen and seperate bedroom. The village was a little bit spread out and there was limited number of bars and restaurants however, where the real action appeared to be was only 10 minutes away down in the main town. There is also a great range of accomodation to choose, from the on mountain luxury of Lizard Creek to the budget chain style hotels downtown.

Family activities (tubing, ice skating etc) are very limited so it may not be as suitable for kids as Big White or Sun Peaks but this place is alll about the skiing and for a very good reason.

We'll be back !

30 cm of new snow 2 days in a row greeted us on our first trip to Fernie in years. Stayed at the Best Western with the Boston Pizza out front. The room was of exceptional value. Only 129 dollars plus taxes per night with our CAA discount. Best value I have seen in the mountains in more than 20 years. Signs on other hotels indicated that low room rates at Fernie are the norm.

My brother bought new boots on this trip, and we found the staff at the ski gear shops to be extremely knowledgable fitters.

I love the small town feel of Fernie. It had been a while since I had stayed in town rather than on hill. In town is another experience all together.

The hill was as awsome as ever. Even with bitter cold (-24)and some breeze to make it feel even more so, we were able to work our way around to the right, to get away from the breeze, and enjoyed a great day skiing. Fernie's off Piste offerings gave us all the workout we were looking for. As always Fernie did not dissapoint. Although the new powder on some areas of the hill was heavy, it did not take long to find the lighter stuff in the trees. Overall A++

I have ridden this hill many days now, after reading the reviews I thought, wow this place is going to be great. Well after a solid opportunity to prove itself worthy of the other reviews, it has come up lacking. Although the hill does get fluffy powder, that alone does not make for a great day. It is not the quaint quite family hill it once was, on any given day; even mid week this hill is very busy. The management there also has a habit of staggering the opening of chairs and sections of the hill on powder days, resulting in everyone going to the remaining open sections. Well it takes no time at all to scrape out a hill when there are 4 people every 10 seconds coming of the lift and roaring down one small section. On the 24th of Dec 2007; we saw ¼ of the hill with 10 inch of fresh powder scraped out to ice and moguls in 45 minutes, then the next lift opened, by lunch time the hill was a mess and half the hill was still closed. We went home after hill personal advised that they had no plans of opening the other half. Well we suggest if they need to do avalanche checking and control, start early enough so the whole hill can be open at the start on a fresh powder day, this will disperse the traffic. To add to this RCR (hill management) is developing a two tear system where some people get access to the hill before others, we are season pass holders and to see other people skiing up and down the fresh powder when we are standing in line is rather annoying, when questioned; the answer that they are working is not comforting when one can see them get off the T-bar (lizard face lift) and ski straight down. We are paying customers like anyone else and with a whole season commitment to the hill we don't like to be treated like second class. Also the price of this hill is now the most expensive in the region for the season passes and the discount received by using a RCR discount card is also less at this hill than any other.

I could not believe it! We have re-named the Holiday week to 'Powder Fest' as Fernie had probably the best snow in North America that week! It is still snowing i hear...I cannot wait to go back! We stayed on mountain as lots of options and we booked through the ski resort and they were very professional. The town has good food, great people and lots of fun! We are going back for Spring! can't wait
