Travel to Angel FIre at least once a year, from Texas - it fits a smaller budget as it is driveable for even a long weekend! Often use this to clean out the cobwebs, stretch the muscles, and stay together as a family/friends.

Angel Fire is a smaller resort, but offers patrons the opportunity to receive friendly attentive service, ride a moderate, beginner/intermediate-friendly mountain, incl something for boarders. Very easy to navigate, staying in contact with the kids is often a case of stay put and they'll circle back around before you know it. Plenty to hone rusty skills, and still enjoy a great day on piste.

Facilities are OK, nothing special, but sufficient. Accomodation is plentiful and varied, with ski-in/ski-out and short walk condo's homes and hotel rooms available nearby. Nightlife is limited, but with the family friendly atmosphere, do you really want the nightclubs rolling out at 2-3am?

Suscpetable to poor snow, but with the altitude in Northern NM, often poor snow years can still be fine on the mountain. Some good places to eat, but we normally self cater, grab a movie and hit the sack in preparation for another early start. They recently added night skiing, but this is a fairly short run infront of the base. It never seemed busy, so the short lift ride doesn't have much of a line. It's a good value for those just wanting a little extra at the end of a long day.

We may have outgrown AF for a longer trip, as our tastes and abilities have matured, but for it's close proximity, and family friendly atmosphere, it's much like the old sweater you cannot throw away, or returning to Grandma's - it's comfortable.
