Lack of Natural Snow Hurting Midwest

You won't find many across the southern tier of the region, but Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio offer some good skiing for their locality. The majority are located in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The common thread that ties them together this winter is the rough start all are having due to the lack of winter-like weather mid-continent. Terry Peak, the Heartland's biggest ski area located in the Black Hills with well over a 1,000-foot vertical drop and elevations that soar to over 7,100 feet, is struggling to get terrain open and so are the smaller ski areas of southern Indiana and Ohio. Size doesn't matter to Mother Nature.
