Mt Hutt Hits 3 Metre Mark; Turoa Sits On Over 4

photos

For the first time in over a decade, Mt. Hutt has over 300 centimetres of snow with extensive terrain opening up for the expert skier and snowboader. It bodes well for the school holidays later in the month of September, the Spring Carnival on September 27 to October 5, and the famous Peak to Pub Race and Park Life mini shred.

The New Zealand Canterbury Ranges have had a record season this winter, and they are not alone. The North Island's Turoa ski field on Mt. Ruapehu is experiencing a four and a half metre base with more snow forecast this week. The Export Gold Extreme competition had to be postponed this week due to stormy conditions, but the mountain may well remain open right through until Christmas.

Great information Rachael. Wish I could escape to the North Island for a few days of riding. Turoa sounds and looks like my kind of place right now: POWDER!
