Resorts in this article: Grindelwald, Wengen, Habkern bei Interlaken, Interlaken, Mürren, More (1)
Switzerland's spectacular Jungfrau Region - home to the famous resorts of Grindelwald, Interlaken, Mürren, and Wengen - is offering attractive packages for snow sport fans during the early ski season until Dec. 20.
In addition to the 2 nights' accommodation and a 2-day Jungfrau sport pass, a free ski test of new season gear for the duration of your stay is included in the price.
The Jungfaru mini-break is available for all the different categories of accommodation from simple hostel to luxury 4-star hotel right up to Christmas.
Prices start from 225 Swiss Francs (140 €) per person including service, taxes and 7.6 percent VAT
The Jungfrau region has two great claims to fame - it was one of the earliest destinations for winter sports holidays and it remains one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on earth. The skiing is pretty good too.
There are other assets - Europe's highest railway station at the Jungfraujoch opens up to a small year round snow field where snow games are currently available in the summer months. It is not possible to ski down to the main slopes from this high point however.
The Jungfrau begins at the beautiful lakeside town of Interlaken, which is particularly notable in the winter for its excellent hotels at bargain prices.
There are several small local ski hills such as Wilderswil and Habkern but the main skiing is to be had at Mürren, which has its own ski area separate to the others, on the largest segment of terrain shared by Wengen and Grindelwald, or on Grindelwald's own First ski area. The latter resort is the only one you can actually drive up to. The first person to ski here was Englishman Gerald Fox who put his skis on in his hotel bedroom in 1881 and walked out through the hotel bar to the slopes wearing them.
