Avalanche Changes Big White, Sun Peaks Routes

The closing blocks a major artery for Vancouver skiers and snowboarders trying to get to out of town ski resorts this weekend (Feb. 16-17). "The best-case scenario is probably the end of the week," Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon said. "The situation is extraordinary. We will not open the highway until we believe it's safe to go through there. In the entire life of the Coquihalla, this is the worst avalanche we have ever seen." Other options to get to resorts such as Big White, Silver Star, and Sun Peaks include Highway 97 and Highway 3.
