Salomon QST 99 ski review, 2017/2018 men's All-Mountain Back Category, from our equipment experts at powered by Masterfit.

The QST 99 is part of a new wave of off-trail skis that don’t depend on Titanal to provide the shock damping necessary to win the battle against choppy snow. OK, there’s some metal in Salomon's QST 99, but it’s only underfoot; the material that dictates how the QST 99 skis is a fiber formed from flax and carbon. The CFX “superfiber” runs virtually tip to tail, delivering smooth, progressive flex resistance. The ease with which the QST 99 bows into a turn matches perfectly with the needs of the Finesse skier who wants to go with the flow, not fight it. Its relatively deep sidecut hooks up right behind its tapered, Koroyd tip, settling into a medium-radius arc as soon as the ski is tipped on edge. Not as torsionally rigid as many of the top skis in this genre, the Salomon QST 99 therefore doesn’t feel as wide as it measures. Theron Lee from Bobo’s describes the QST 99 as “Damp and smooth, with above average quickness for a 99mm. Comfortable, with superior carving characteristics; came around quickly.”
