A nice, attractive resort with good snow and terrain totally ruined by one of the most antiquated lift systems I have ever used. Getting around was painfully slow. Eventually gave up and went to neighboring Astun. Some serious investment needed!!
All mountain terrain, good beginners area, good off piste possibilities.
Lifts old and slow.
Sharing a lift ticket with Astún, Candanchú has a reputation as one of Spain's toughest ski resorts, few in the world have more difficult trails than any other category. The ski runs here follow the natural terrain and the elderly lifts are gradually being replaced with high speed chairs. A third of the terrain is classified expert and some optimistic locals swear it has better terrain even than the best in the Alps. “If you can ski Candanchu, you can ski anywhere,” is the claim. Check out Tubo de la Zapatilla and Loma Verde runs. After skiing head down to Jaca, a 2000 yerar old settlement just 15 minutes below, for the apres ski. If you base yourself there you have the option to ski other major Spanish resorts in the region including Formigal and Panticosa – together providing more than 100 miles of runs.
