Steg is NOT Malbun!!! I know this because I'm one of the 18,000 native Liechtensteiners. Steg is the valley before you get to Malbun, which the ski resort. Steg comes right after the long tunnel you have to go through. I love Steg in Summer and early Fall. You can park your car right at the beginning of the valley and then track alongside the small lake way in the back of the valley. There is no climbing involved, but wear good shoes, not high heels, as it's a nature path you're walking on. While you walking through the Steg valley, you'll have a great view to a mountain in front of you the whole time. It's what closes off the valley. On a beautiful, warm summer or fall day, the clear air and the smells of grass and wild flowers is enchanting. Add cowbells ringing from left and right up the sides, you are in Alpine paradise. When you reach the back of the valley, there's a Stable, in which the cows are kept over night. You can sit and rest outside on rugged wooden benches and tables and eat your picnic. You can also get a beverage and fresh made cheese from the man who lives there. Later, when you're back at your car, you might like to walk over to the old, dark wooden restaurant. It's been there since Napoleon went skiing in Malbun. Have a beer and try some of the local specialties. https://tourismus.li/en/lie/place/Restaurant%20Bergst%C3%BCbli%20Steg/ If you're looking for action, go to Dizzy World. This is for a relaxing, invigorating few hours. You can do it alone, as a couple, or with kids.
Lovely in Fall for a picnic outing with family

I have to start by saying that our experience is probably not typical of most visits to Malbun. When we were there the resort received more than 3 feet of snow in a 24 hour period. It was amazing in a number of ways (never seen it snow that much that quickly, plenty of untouched powder), but had its perils and drawbacks as well (visibility going down the slopes was very limited due to near whiteout conditions, snow dump obscured or buried many trail markers). The resort was small and we had trouble finding restaurants open if we didn't decide to eat in a very small window of time, but the advantage to the small size was little to no waits on the lifts.
Plenty of snow, no waits
Poor trail marking, limited dining
